LANGUAGE

Language is a creation of the human mind and helps people share ideas. It not only helps us communicate but also enriches our culture. When a child starts coming regularly to the House of Children, they find the freedom to speak and express themselves. They are encouraged to talk, which helps them use the words they already know and learn new ones. The different activities, like practical life tasks and sensory activities, give the child more experiences, helping them express themselves more clearly and vividly. In Montessori, language development begins with enriching the child's vocabulary by exposing them to new words through their environment and activities. Then next step is often phonics because it helps children connect sounds to letters, which is essential for decoding and building words. As the child is developing his understanding of phonetics, we naturally step into writing and reading. Both are interconnected, and the Montessori approach treats them as two sides of the same coin, helping children build their literacy skills in a hands-on, organic way.

1) Vocabulary - In Montessori, we have activities designed for children for enriching their vocabulary through real-world interactions, where children learn new words by engaging with their environment, materials, and practical life activities.

2) Phonics - In Montessori, phonics is taught through a multisensory approach, where children connect sounds to letters using tactile materials, like sandpaper letters, to build foundational writing and reading skills.

3) Writing - In Montessori, writing is encouraged through hands-on activities like tracing sandpaper letters, using the movable alphabet, and gradually forming words and sentences, fostering a natural progression from spoken to written language.

4) Reading - In Montessori, reading is nurtured by starting with phonetic awareness, using tactile materials and simple, meaningful books to help children decode words and develop fluency at their own pace.
